What is Therapeutic Massage?

Therapeutic massage is a hands-on rehabilitation technique used to improve both a patient’s physical comfort and overall well-being. Through targeted manual techniques, massage helps reduce muscle tension, improve flexibility, and support the body’s natural healing processes.

Physiologically, massage increases circulation, enhances lymphatic drainage, and promotes relaxation of tight or compensating muscle groups. This can relieve pain, improve joint mobility, decrease stiffness, and reduce muscle spasms. Massage is especially beneficial for pets recovering from surgery, managing chronic pain, or adjusting to changes in gait due to injury or arthritis.

Beyond the physical benefits, massage can also have a calming effect on the nervous system. Many pets experience reduced anxiety and improved comfort during and after sessions, making it a valuable component of a comprehensive rehabilitation plan.

Conditions That May Benefit from Therapeutic Massage

  • Muscle tension and soreness

  • Post-operative recovery

  • Arthritis and chronic pain

  • Compensatory muscle strain

  • Decreased flexibility

  • Stress and anxiety related to discomfort

Massage is often incorporated alongside other rehabilitation modalities such as hydrotherapy, laser therapy, and therapeutic exercise to maximize recovery and support long-term mobility.
