What is Therapeutic Exercise?

Therapeutic exercise involves guided, purposeful movements designed to help pets regain strength, stability, and confidence in their mobility. These exercises are carefully selected based on your pet’s diagnosis, physical ability, and recovery goals.

Each session may incorporate a variety of techniques and specialized equipment to safely challenge strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and proprioception (body awareness). Exercises are progressed gradually to build muscle, improve stability, and encourage proper movement patterns while minimizing strain or reinjury.

Therapeutic exercise plays an important role in post-operative recovery, neurologic rehabilitation, weight management, senior mobility support, and athletic conditioning. It is often combined with other rehabilitation modalities such as hydrotherapy, laser therapy, massage, or therapeutic ultrasound as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Therapeutic Exercise May Be Recommended For:

  • Post-surgical recovery

  • Muscle weakness or atrophy

  • Arthritis and joint instability

  • Neurologic conditions affecting coordination or gait

  • Balance deficits

  • Weight management

  • Athletic conditioning and injury prevention

Because every patient progresses differently, treatment plans are continually reassessed and adjusted to support safe, steady improvement in function and comfort.
